PostSubject: Treasures in Heaven   Sat Oct 17, 2015 10:14 pm

I read in the local newspaper the other day about how poorly installed electric wiring caused a fire that burned a home down. The flames leveled the house within an hour, leaving nothing but rubble. In another article, I read about how a couple returned home from church and found their house had been broken into and many possessions were stolen.

In our very imperfect world, loss of material wealth is all too common—vehicles are stolen or crashed, ships sink, buildings crumble, homes are flooded, and personal belongings are stolen. This makes Jesus’ admonition not to put our trust in earthly wealth very meaningful. "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19-21

In Luke 12:16-21, Jesus told a story of a man who accumulated abundant treasures and decided to store up everything for himself. And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. He thought to himself, What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops. Then he said, This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. And I’ll say to myself, You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry. But God said to him, You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself? This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.

Material wealth is temporary. Nothing lasts forever—except what God enables us to do for others. Giving of our time and resources to spread the Gospel, visiting those who are lonely, and helping those in need are just some of the many ways to store up treasure in heaven.

Insight: Our real wealth is what we invest for eternity. In what ways are you storing up treasures in heaven? How can you change and grow in this area of your life?

Readers Prayer: Dear Lord, Please impress it upon my heart..."to invest for eternity" and store up treasures in heaven. In Jesus' Name Amen

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
