One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at Him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save Yourself and us!” But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this Man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into Your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with Me in paradise." Luke 23:39-43.

Jesus was crucified between two criminals. One thief remained rebellious towards Him and the other was sorry for his sins and realized Jesus was innocent. Moreover, this repentant thief asked Jesus to remember him when Jesus entered into His kingdom. He knew Jesus was God and the Savior of the World. And of course, Jesus knew the man's contrite heart so He promised him the gift of eternal life.

The account of the thief on the cross has heartened many a soul, confirming that it is never too late to turn to Jesus. But the most important thing we see here is that there is nothing in this world you or I can do to save ourselves. What could the thief do while he hung there, hands and feet nailed to the beams? If ever there was a picture of our inability to earn eternal life, this is it. Jesus already lived the perfect life many of us strive after; He paid the penalty for our sin - sin that convicts us just as much as it did the dying thief at Calvary. May Jesus' words of salvation reach you in your heart today!

Insight: As long as you're still breathing, it's never too late to turn to Christ. Just as He turned to the thief on the cross and promised him salvation, He will turn to you and save you too...even while you are dead in your sins.

Reader's Prayer, Dear God, Impress it upon my heart how important it is to get saved by turning to Jesus for the forgiveness of my sins. In Jesus' Name Amen.

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
1 John 5:11-12 cheers
