Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:1-2

Despair sometimes afflicts Christians who have a deep desire to please God but are sensitive to and feel crushed by their failures. Some even give up, assuming that a life of joy could never be a reality for them. The nagging persistence of sin knocking at the door of a person’s heart can be enough to do them in.

If this is you or someone you know, please understand that there are two laws at work in us. The law of sin and death exposes our sin. That's why God gave us the Ten Commandments. Not so we can keep them...but so we can realize and accept that we can't keep them. They leave us sin-conscious rather than righteousness-conscious. The other law at work is of the Spirit of life in Christ. In this there is wonderful grace, the free gift of God. Grace is "getting what we don't deserve." And in this grace, lies the remedy for all of our despair. The “no condemnation” status we find through grace is for those of us who are conscious of both our sins and our wonderful Savior, Jesus Christ who died in our place so our sins can be forgiven.

Insight: A life of joy and victory belongs to those who do not rely on their own righteousness but on Jesus' righteousness who died on their behalf. It’s not all about us, but all about Him and what He has done. If you know that, now you have been set free!

Dear God, I know that Jesus Christ died for me so that my sins...past, present and future can be forgiven. I also know that there is no unforgivable sin because of Your wonderful gift of grace found only in Jesus Christ and His death on the cross. In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen.

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
1 John 5:11-12 cheers
