PostSubject: A Beacon of Hope   Sat Aug 27, 2016 11:16 am

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to Myself, so that where I am, there you may be also.  John 14:3

The late C.S. Lewis in his remarkable book, Christian Behavior, said "Hope is one of the theological virtues." He meant that a continual looking forward to the eternal world is not, as some people think, a form of escapism or wishful thinking, but one of the things a Christian is meant to do.

This does not mean we are to leave the present world as it is. If you read history you will find that the Christians who did the most for the present world were those who thought the most of the next. It is only since Christians have largely ceased to think of the next world, that they have become so ineffective in this one. "Aim at heaven," said Lewis, "and you will get earth thrown in. Aim at earth and you will get neither."

Insight: In the midst of the pessimism, gloom, and frustration of the present hour, there is one bright beacon of hope - and that is the promise of Jesus Christ. For He is the One that said "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to Myself, so that where I am, there you may be also." Is this not the best hope anyone could ever have?

Reader's Prayer: Dear God, Help me to understand this very important message. I don't want to focus my hope only in this world or the things in it, because the disappointments are obvious. Help me to focus instead on the Lord Jesus Christ, the fact that He loves me and died for my sins. I want to have true hope of an eternal life in heaven with You. And I know through You, I can do many wonderful things in the meantime. In Jesus' Name Amen.

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
