PostSubject: Truth in Parables   Sat Sep 17, 2016 10:18 am

“Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; He did not say anything to them without using a parable.” Matthew 13:34

Jesus used stories to communicate the truths He wished to teach. They are called parables. He told parables because He knew they would stay long in His listener's minds, the same way they do with us when we hear or read them today. Crowds followed Jesus to hear Him talk, forgetting entirely what time of day it was or even if they ought to stop and eat. Isn’t that how it is when you’re reading or hearing a really good book?

Over the years of attending church services, I have marveled at how a fitting illustration from one of Christ's parables would stick with me...long after the rest of the sermon was forgotten.

When God sent His Son into this world in human flesh, His “illustration” had just begun. His people hardly imagined that Jesus’ life—from the humble birth as a baby in Bethlehem to the cruel death on the cross at Calvary—were the glimpses they had for thousands of years through the prophecies of the Old Testament. The greatest tragedy was when many did not realize that the very Creator of their lives, was right in their midst. Don’t miss Him as He speaks to you...and calls you.

Insight: Christ used parables to teach the multitudes of the truth of God's kingdom. Open God's Word today and read what the people of Christ's day heard. Can we afford not to hear what He said...and is still saying today?

Dear God...Please give me the desire to open the Bible and read of Jesus' parables...and learn of Your truth in love today. In Jesus' Name, Amen

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
