PostSubject: Comfort In Suffering   Sun May 14, 2017 7:34 am

“Praise be to God…, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

If you are undergoing suffering, spend some time reading the first nine chapters of 2 Corinthians. You will resonate with knowing the comfort and encouragement of God through dark times.

The Christians I speak to who are facing difficulty never say they enjoy the suffering. It is painful while it happens. But often afterward they see the good that has come out of it. Through faith, they have been comforted by God in each step of their distressing ordeal. Like just about any kind of training, no discipline is pain-free when it happens. The reward comes later when we are drawn closer to Jesus. Then the reward continues because we understand what others are going through. We have been there ourselves. We can enter into a deeper friendship with others that seem to be going through "the same thing" because we comfort them and bear some of their burden through first hand experience.

The pain of suffering may seem endless at the time, but it brings patient endurance and the everlasting comfort of Christ, comfort which can overflow to others for a long time to come.

Insight: You may still suffer but in a little while you will know the full extent of Christ's comforting grace.

Note: I type this as my wife, Debbie and I just received the news that her leukemia has come back after only six weeks of remission. The message of this devotion is about as real as it gets for us. Over the next two months she will be hospitalized for chemo treatments and bone marrow transplant. Anyone out there that has a heart to pray for her during this time, we'd surely appreciate it.

Reader's Prayer: Dear Lord, Not one of us is immune to problems in this life. When the time comes, let me face them by focusing on You, and know that You will get me through as I lean on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of my faith. And when I'm through the valley, I can help others from the loving mercy and grace You have showed me. In Jesus' blessed Name, Amen

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
