“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Roman 5:1

We can look all around this world and also look down through history but still find no place or era where there is or was peace. The world keeps searching for it, maintaining that higher education, better-distributed wealth, more solid upbringing of children, greater tolerance of others and/or countless other changes will help bring about world peace. It should be obvious by now that these good measures simply will not do it. God hasn’t promised us peace within this world, but He has promised us “peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

When we receive God’s gift of salvation through Jesus’ sacrifice for our sin, God makes peace with us. We are at war with Him in our old sinful nature, but this does not have to continue! In the book of Romans, the Apostle Paul explains that peace is far above what our sinful nature is capable of producing. That is why Jesus said you must be “born again.” There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:1-3)

The possibilities are now limitless for peace with God and man. Humility, forgiveness, reconciliation, and self-sacrificing love can all be found in our lives because Jesus bought them for us at the cross.

Insight: Have you found peace with God? Like Nicodemus, we too may not want to be seen coming to Jesus, but deep down in our innermost being we all long for peace with God. It comes by being born again, or by being born from above.

Reader's Prayer: I humbly come to You O Lord, by faith, to receive Your gift of salvation through Your Son, Jesus Christ. I believe His death on the cross, burial and resurrection is the payment for my sins and is the only way I can be forgiven of my sins. I want to be born from above, have peace with You and go to heaven when I leave this earth. In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen.

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
