PostSubject: BRAKE LAMP SWITCH LOCATION?   Sat Nov 25, 2017 12:40 pm

SO TELL ME IF I'M THE ONLY ONE, IT SEEMS THAT HYDRAULIC BRAKE LAMP SWITCH IN MY MASTER CYLINDER BURNS OUT AT LEAST TWICE A YEAR. I'VE HEARD OTHERS TALK HOW THEY WERE PROBLEMATIC BUT THIS SEEMS EXCESSIVE. NOW I HAVE NON POWER ASSIST MASTER CYLINDER, SHOULD THIS SWITCH BE SCREWED INTO THE ENDOF THE MASTER OR ON THE BOTTOM PORT LIKE MINE ALREADY IS? I'VE SEEN THE CONVERSION KITS FOR A SWITCH ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, ID LIKE TO JUST KEEP THINGS SIMPLE AND ORIGINAL, BUT I AM TIRED OF REPLACING THIS SWITCH.

That switch should not burn out that quickly or that often. Sounds to me like it's an electrical issue as opposed to the hydraulic/electric switches themselves. If you want to get really in depth you could check your wiring and grounds. I'd put an inline fuse in going to the switch and add a ground wire. That should fix the issue. Have you checked to see how dirty the brake fluid is? Chunks of crap can get into the switch and make it malfunction as well.

Mine was on the bottom on the original master cylinder.
