PostSubject: Grieving with Hope   Fri Mar 02, 2018 11:36 am

"For God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. Then the people will settle there and possess it; the children of His servants will inherit it, and those who love His name will dwell there." Psalm 69:35-36

Though we are to follow Jesus’ example and mourn as He did over sin and death, we are not to mourn as those who are despairing and hopeless. For through Jesus’ death on the cross, burial and resurrection, we have boundless hope – hope that is not some mystical feeling, but a hope that is an actual promise or commitment. We are of good courage, I say, and are willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be at home with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8. And for those who have died in Christ, we know they will rise again. And since only God knows the heart, we can hope that those who did not die in Christ will have turned to God in the last possible moment. All of life and death is in God’s hands.

The psalmists teach us how to mourn as well. Though they express their deepest, rawest emotions to God without restraint, in the end of each psalm, they reassert what they know about God. He is worthy to be praised. He will do what He has promised. This life is not all that there is. And so we are to grieve, but with a long-distance view of what is to come. When that seems too hard, just like the psalmists, we can ask God to help us. He will be faithful to your cry.

Scripture Focus:1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

Insight: Let us not mourn without praise and when it seems like we can't, let us ask God for help to believe what He has commanded is possible.

Reader's Prayer: Dear God, I know I cannot escape grief in this life, so when it comes, make me confident in the fact that You will do what You have promised. I also know this life is not all that there is, so I will do my very best to view it with a long-distance view of what is to come; a glorious eternal life with You. When this seems too difficult, just like the psalmists, I will pray and ask You to help me. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
