PostSubject: Need Help with Brake booster   Mon May 28, 2018 4:38 pm

Car has been a treat.  57 Plymouth,  1976 Newport 440 installed along with disk brakes up front and drums in the back.  Has a brake booster which I knew was not right to begin with.  Brakes were working fine prior to me replacing....well just up and down the street.
Replaced all the brake lines , wheel cylinders, brakes.. did some investigating and found that the booster and master are out of a 1991 Civic????  I figured they might have done this as there is not a lot of room between motor and firewall.  I had to remove the valve cover to remove the booster.  booster is 9 inches but very thin.

This brings me to where I am now,  Pretty sure that a standard booster and master will not fit because of the motor.  Anyone ever encounter this and if so,  maybe,  what they used.

Can I just go to a manual master as I'm sure the booster that is on it was not really giving much throw.

I'm kinda out of my league,  any help would be great,  besides this issue  my car is ready
for the road.  Just need that whole brake thing.
I'll try to take a pic of it
Thanks

The problem with "hack" conversions is you have no idea what they were thinking or what they changed out...

Brakes are pretty important so you want to do this right. My advice is to convert it using the right parts. You'll need a power brake pedal assembly, bellows, vacuum tank and new master cylinder. I converted mine using a late 70's dodge charger dual reservoir master and added an adjustable proportioning valve beneath it.

Try ebay for the original plymouth parts or John at BigM auto in Williams CA. He can be reached at (530) 473-2225

Good Luck!

Unfortunately I have done my measurements and gotten the spacs on it and there's no way it will fit. Even with modifying the valve cover. Gotta figure a way or I might have to go with manual brakes

Check with Fury Jim Rawa who has done these before. You can find him on FB or google him. He lives in NJ.

Yes, you are welcome.  I believe it is a hemi 'A' body/E body offset booster.  Like this: http://www.mattsclassicbowties.com/contents/en-us/p2820.html   Some come with different links for different cars.  The first one in the pics, I found at a Mopar swap meet and it bolted right in!  No different links for it.  I think I got the second one for the '57 (in copper) from Matts.  The tubing/pv2 valve is a whole, another story.  Marc.
