PostSubject: torqueflite trans   Tue May 15, 2012 7:51 am

I got my trans in and got everything hooked up. i have all gears except 3rd. The trans shifts smooth 1 to 2nd and when i put it in reverse it goes right in. Ive put a test light on the safty switch and went from reverse to N and drive to N. Does anyone know why it wouldnt shift into 3rd gear? Thanks.

Sounds as if you may need to consult the manual, there is a plug in the case of the transmission where you can install a pressure gauge to check the line pressure at the high gear clutch pack, somehow it sounds as though this is not getting fluid pressure to it. I am more familiar with the older cast iron Torqueflites, but the internals are pretty much the same.

I hope you get it figured out and works for you, I remember having to adjust the cable a few times, before it would shift correctley, the last time I had a running Christine right after I installed the trans. The manual is pretty good on the cable adjustment.

I just had mine redone in my current project, and Im nervous because the guy didnt have previous Cast Iron Tq experience.- best of luck- Carlos
